The Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 course is your 'Learner's Permit' for backcountry sled travel in avalanche terrain. This course is comprised of a minimum 7 hours of classroom education followed by one full day of instruction in the field. Participants can expect to learn how to recognize avalanche terrain, core concepts of avalanche formation and release, the basics of trip planing, how to use tools such as the Avaluator and avalanche bulletins to mitigate your avalanche risk, how to travel safely in avalanche terrain, and the fundamentals of companion rescue. Cost $350.
